The re-worked WAC is a regional power, and sitting around 2nd strongest of the Non-BCS...remember the Mountain West is now a BCS conference! Read the first installment and catch up if you didn't know that! So here is the 2008 WAC before I present the NEW WAC:
Boise State, Fresno State, Hawai'i, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, Nevada, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Utah State.
The reworked WAC will look radically different as they will retain only 3 of their current schools (Boise State, Fresno State, New Mexico State, Idaho and Utah State leave for the new MWC and Louisiana Tech heads to the new Gulf Coast Conference). This whole sale change is the largest to any of the conferences left with their previous names. The radical split up was to regionalize and beef up the MWC, while leaving the WAC (the lesser of the two Non-BCS conferences in the West) to pick up the scraps. The new WAC would look something like this:

WAC West: San Diego State, Hawai'i, Nevada, UNLV, San Jose State
WAC Central (Or the Texas Division): Rice, SMU, Houston, UTEP, Tulsa, North Texas
What positives would come out of this restructed WAC? One thing that would happen is they would gain a STRONG hold on the whole state of Texas which would bring a huge boast to ratings and attendance. Bringing UNLV and San Diego State pulls rivalries for Nevada and San Jose State, solidifying Nevada as WAC country. Obviously the Division are EXTREMELY regional in this group, there is no doubting that, but it could allow for one of two things. Either the Conference championship game would be a HUGE class between West Coast and Texas, both areas of the country that are huge into football. OR the Texas teams will take huge advantage of the almost endless talent pool in Texas/Oklahoma and dominate the West Division.
There is a strong potential that to start, a team like Tulsa, UTEP and Houston would dominate the conference. Hawai'i and Nevada could be stronger teams out of the West but who knows if they would be able to hang with the Central Division teams. The WAC would for sure be a Non-BCS conference, but it shouldn't be taken lightly in the new world of College Football.
Alright folks, tomorrow is the 4th installement of the series where I unveil the first of my two new conferences. We will see the Gulf Coast Conference come into existance!
BUT FIRST! VIDEO TIME! Here is a highlight tape from Hawai'i's undefeated season in 2007...
